Carver 3600 problem with control.

Hi and thanks for reading.

I tried to light the carver 3600 gas heater in our van at weekend (1st time in van) and the control knob is all loose and can be lifted outwards. I would like to know if this is something i can sort out myself if i can ever find out how to remove the front. We were able to use the electric heater but it didnt get very warm. We are due to go again at end of September and the nights will be colder so really need this working.

When was the heater last serviced, being a Carver 3600 it will be at least 16 years old.

Do remember that all work on gas appliances (including installation, removal and repairs) must be carried out by a competent person working to the required standards.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Im unsure of last service but have managed to remove the front panel and can see that the long stem from the control knob is loose where it fits onto the ignition system. It seems to be missing a grub screw or similar to hold it in place. Im going to get onto the place where i bought the van and see if they will sort it for me and service it at the same time. As you say it possibly needs servicing so 2 birds with one stone i think.

I would be worried about the van in general if the place you bought it from let you buy it with a fault on the gas fire and relied on you to find it.
It should have been checked BEFORE you took ownership of it.

What else have they failed to do?????????????????????????

I agree first and foremost with John and Damian, however if it's really loose it could have been checked but have simply then jumped off on the way home!
Out of balance wheels and or over inflated tyres being a common cause of this but with a simple solution
As for using a grub screw, yes Carver used one latterly but it must finish flush when fitted or it will stop the spark.
Personally, I simply spread the corners of the 'v' cutout until they grip the plastic

When I bought the van it was given a full check over and was all seen working in handover. We live in an area of many many speed humps and the guy I bought it from said exactly the same as Gary above. It's jumped off in transit and it's a simple fix which I can do if it happens again.
