The heater in the van works on the mains but do you think I can light the gas, no.

It is a Carver 3600 stc in my Swift 1998.

I turn on the gas bottle and inside taps.

Turn on the switch to van 12v.

Turn on the heater switch on main board.

Light on the board says heater ok.

Press down round nob/switch on top of heater and turn to ignite.

Red light comes on on control nob.

After 10 sec turn to flame and hold down for 20 sec.

I can not see any pilot light in bottom of heater but can hear clicking.

No heat.

The cooker works first go so getting gas to that ok.

Any idea what is wrong, I have read the Manuel.

When was the heater last serviced?

One of teh biggest problems with gas appliances in caravans is the fact they are not used regularly, and are often left unused sometimes for months on end.

The nooks and crannies are ideal places fro spiders and other insects to get in, and it only takes a few strands of spider web inside the burner bar to disrupt the gas and air mixture making it difficult or impossible to light.

Service work on all gas appliance should be left to a competent person.

To light the all Carver gas fires since 1994, you need to turn the control knob to an exact position on the dial, this is marked by a 'zig-zag', problem is this mark is often not exactly in the right place!?

Solution is to turn the knob off the stop and before you get to the mark, press down, now keep holding the knob down and continue to turn until you feel the knob drop a little further.

At this point the knob will be locked as a pin has dropped into a slot, this is the only position the gas safety valve is open and gas can reach the pilot burner.

The fire should now light and on the 3600 the red light should go out when it does and the ticking of the spark stop, continue to hold for several seconds and then release and the fire should remain lit on pilot.

Now you can move the knob further and the main burner light, on Maximum heat, continuing further regulates down to minimum heat, the fire will then maintain whatever temperature set automatically.

The fire has a AA battery at the very bottom left hand side. It is not mentioned in the handbook or the Carver manual. It some times comes loose in transit or it wears out. Lie on the floor and you will see a small cover, flick this off and you will see a battery. J.Lo

Gary said,(At this point the knob will be locked as a pin has dropped into a slot).

Now we are talking, I will give this a go tomorrow, it dose sound like it is not getting gas.

The strange thing is I remember trying the gas heater and it lit then, are was I dreaming.

I could take the van back as it has a 12 month warranty but thats over 60 miles away.

Thanks for all help, what would I do with out you lot.
