Our Carver/blown air heating system is not emitting any heat on the electric setting, but the fan is working. On the gas setting whilst it is reaching temperature it is emitting a loud humming noise/vibration is this normal? The fan etc is working and emitting loads of heat but just rather noisey. If this is not normal has any one any ideas as to what these problems might be? The caravn is a sterling sheraton 1999. Thanks.

There could be several reasons why the electric side is not working but the most common is the 'kettle' plug mains connection has fallen out at the back!!

After that do all the lights work OK on the slide switch? they should come on in sequence and only one at a time.

If the lights are OK push the back temperature control slide to minimum and switch the front slider to half fan, now slide the temp control up to half way and listen for the click of a relay. Change to full fan and then push the back slider to full temperature and you should hear a second relay clicking in, there is a several second delay for this.

If that checks out OK then the control is working which leave either two faulty elements!! which is doubtful or the temperture sensor is faulty.

The howling noise you discribe is normal? it's a resonance set up by the heated air striking cold metal before it heats up the heat exchange. Some are worse than others but about a minute with the gas on full bore after being lit quietens mine down.

The good news is the mk2 fanmaster 4000 you have is really a 5500 Turbo? they assumed both gas and electric could not be used together as on the older mk1 fanmaster the electric side would switch itself off if the gas fire was lit as well.

PS. forgot to mention there is a fused (10A)isolation switch for the mains and of course this must be on and if it lights then the fuse is OK

I have heard tell of a baffle Carver made to solve this noise problem when the fire was first introduced in 1998, this apparently should have been fitted under warranty. The only ones I have seen have what would be described as a baffle already in place but permanent not something thats been added.

You could safely remove the plastic air intake cover at the base of the burner which is under the van where you can see an angled plate either side of the burner if their fitted.

The flue pipe length and route can also effect the resonance in an individual setup but pulling and pushing at this should be left to experts to make sure the flue seal is not disturbed as this seal is critical for safe use.
