carver 5500 turbo fanmaster space heater (heat problem)

hi there to everyone

hoping someone maybe able to help us out with a problem

we have the above heater in our avondale van and have found on our last trip away that when the above was used on the electric heat setting it would not warm up when tried on gas it was fine and heated up as quick as it ever did

im wondering if the element may have gone or could it be something as simple as a trip switch? as on our old coachman we had the problem of the heater on and of every now and then but i hasten to add it was a different heater, so unsure if this purticular one has the same facility?

any help would be much appreciated

thanks in advance

I take it the fan is working as it should? and the mains isolation switch is on? if so then the likely problem is the 'kettle' type mains plug has simply fallen out?!

This plugs into the fires control box, this is over the back of the gas fire, top right behind the gas control knob.

It plugs in sideway toward the centre of the fire and fits in a recess at the bottom of the control box.

If I'm right then it would be a good idea to get the wheels balanced, if not then get back to me.

Thankfully only a few Gary's and even less who use a small 'g' not me though Bill, I've a Bessacarr and this other gary pulls an Abbey Spectrum?!

The 4000/5500 has two elements so no heat means something other than elements at fault, little heat on the 2kw setting could though mean that element is dead?

More likely is the slide switch at fault, first do all lights work and then only one light at a time?

Next, set the front slide to fan only and using the back slide, test to make sure the fan speeds up to full speed?

If not, then when back slide becomes the temperature control, while using electric heating, it will not be able to call for full heat.

Set front slider to 1kw setting and then slide back slider fully up, you should hear and instant click as the 1kw realy switches on.

Next push front slider to 2kw and there is then a pause for several seconds while fan speeds up, you should then hear second click of the 2kw relay switching on.

One other thing, I've got this fire in my van and it played up not giving enough heat over new year, I've not yet had time to find the actual fault, but a new one on me and obviously on the main control board.
