Two questions

The control knob on top of the fire has become detached down inside the fire how do I re-connect it,

How do I get the cover off the fire so I can clean it and I assume to re-connect the starter rod.

I have tried lifting it and pulling it but it seems to be solidly attached

GS,

The fire is held in place by 2 spring catches at each upper side of the fire.

Sometimes the fire is screwed in place, so look through the louvres at the top to seee if a screw is present.

Try pulling the fire slightly towards you. the springs can be quite strong. If no screws are fitted it should come forward slightly. Then you will see a wire spring clip that needs to be pushed down to allow the fire to come forward and lift off after detaching any wires.

Thought someone would have replied by now. This is from memory!

Hope this helps

Jim

Jim's advice applies to Truma fires, Carvers clip on at the bottom, they can also be screwed at the bottom if the fire front had a habit of jumping off?

The control rod fixing depends on if yours is manual igntion where the piezo igniter is part of the control rod, or the automatic ignition type.

Both simply fit onto a spindle coming up from the gas valve, later manual types normally have a grub screw to tighten, the auto either similar or sometimes a tiny spring clip that often falls out, if it has a magnet hopefully will find it for you!
