carver heater lay up

can anyone advise please, have never had to lay up caravan for winter before, have undone sump plug to empty water in heater, how are you to know when the heater is completely empty, the plug was open for about 8 hours, before being replaced. Have switched on hot taps with 12v system on and nothing came out, compass rallye gte 1991 instruction manual says very little, many thanks.

Hi Nigel, you need to open all taps, remove shower head, remove bung from heater and leave to drain, if as you say it's been draining for 8 hours that should be enough, leave the bung loose in the thread just to allow any residule water to drain!!!

Because my own outfit is heavy, 95%, I always drain the hot-water heater, each time, before towing.

Turn off the pump electrics, open all the hot taps and then the drain tap. When water flow ceases open all the cold taps, the flow may start again for a short while. It all takes about 15-20 minutes.

Leave ALL the taps open, including the drain tap, with any mixer taps in the mid-way position.
