Carver Water Heater- No water from hot taps!

We have just comeback from our 1st outing this year in our caravan and could not get water to flow from the hot taps, usually once the tank has filled the water runs and we can then turn the heater on to heat the water. I have removed the taps to try and release any possible air block oddly I could only get a small amount of water to flow from the hot tap when the cold tap was running in the wash room and I am not sure if this was just cold flowing in the wrong direction!. It seemed as though no water was entering the tank as I removed the inlet water pipe and tried blowing through the system with the hot tap open but it did not appear that anything was getting through! Any help would be much appreciated - Thanks

Just a thought, have you left the hot water drain off tap open!!

sound like you have an airlock , try draining the system down again ,lift out the pump and lower the pump back into the barrel i normally spray some silicone spray around the part that connects to the caravan as sometimes the O rings can dislodge and allow air to enter , next open the taps on there hot setting and turn on the pump hopefully you should force the air from the hot water tank

Thanks for your reply I did check the drain plug and it was definatley closed. I know on past trips, when all was working well, at the end of our stay when I open the drain plug a lot of water came out as the hot tank emptied. This time just the odd drop of water came out.

Thanks for you advice - the cold water runs fine although I guess this does not travel through the hot tank. I will try what you suggest and see if that works.

Tony,

I believe there is a non return valve on the water heater.

These can become stuck and not allow enough water to pass through heater and hence out to the taps.

Most common problem is a sticking non-return valve, this is part of the cold water inlet fitting too the Cascade.

It depends on which type you have as to how you can fix it, is it black plastic or white?

Other than that, another possible is the narrow passage from the inlet up to the tank is blocked with limescale particles, this can happen when last draining due to loose lime scale in the tank getting stuck in the much narrower passage.

A simple solution to this is to back flush the blockage using a hose pipe roughly connected to the drain bung hole, you must though have hot taps open to allow air in the tank to escape, or it will not work and you will simply get soaked!!

thanks for your advice, I have bought a new non return valve/inlet fitting (in black to replace existing) just now working out how to get the old one off without taking the tank out toaccess it!!!!

Will also try back flushing system as you suggest.
