The last thing I want to do is to put people or touring France particularly in the Autumn. However, please be aware that information about site open dates may be far from reliable which can seriously upset your trip.
In the last year i have found at least 4 instances where municipal sites have claimed to be opean between given dates both in the various guide books and even worse on their own websites. Two weeks ago we arrived on a Sunday at one claiming to be open every day all year on it's website only to find it was closed to new entrants on Sundays. A similar event happened back in April at another site.
In both cases the telephone numbers displayed for the wardens out hours were 'out of service' when called. In both cases the sites had failed to respond to email requests as to hours of opening made a few days previously
At another we found it closed to new entrants on a Friday evening until the following Monday morning. Existing occupants had electronic cards for the barriers but also strict instructions that they were no allowed to use them for anything else. One site had numberplate recognition equipment to enforce this arrangement.
Sites included Ferriers en Gatinais, Doue La Fontain and Chateau Gontier. - all popular with us.

Suggest you take all possible steps to establish whether and when you will be able to get into sites at this time of year and not to believe totally in dates posted in site guidebooks or even seemingly up to date websites.
Research an alternative before travelling.
Also be aware that if there are very few customers municipals and some private sites will shut down early and force your to leave at short notice, sometimes no more than 24 hours.

Emmeson, so true about three years ago went to the Normandy coast for November being told that sites would be open until mid november, WRONG, as you say if the sites dont have people then they close, even if they state they should be open. . Ended up in campstite carparks,
So newbies beware in the winter, but Mr Michael at Monteuil sur mer. http://www.campinglafontainedesclercs.fr is always open. Akward entry to the place but great. Also a tough walk into the town vey hilly . But great. Lovely town resteraunts and a great vet for us doggy folk.

Some years back we were in the Juru in mid September and most of the sites and hotels/b&b were closed down despite it being gorgeous weather. But apart from a few Brits and Irish there were previous few other tourists.

Can I suggest that those travelling outside peak season should download http://www.archiescampings.eu/. 'Archie' works very hard to keep site details up to date, and relies on users to inform him if sites are not open when they say they are, or if anything else has changed. Even 'non-Archies-users' can use the website link to let Archie know of any closed sites, changed dates, etc.
