Cavalier kirbweight - long shot.

I know its a long shot but does anyone know the kirbweight for a 1995 Caviler 1.8 petrol hatchback.

getting a bit old now i know but if its heavy enough to move the caravan about it'll be handy

I had the equivalent '97 model (with manual transmission) once, but that shouldn't be much different from a '95 and it weighed 1420kg (actual weight).

Thanks very much for that , but are you sure it was a Cavalier you had not a Vectra ? '97 sounds a bit late for a Cavalier.

I hope you're right though!

Gareth

Is that a bit like "definitely"?

You're on the cusp with 95 Cavalier/Vectra change over so you may be confused, it's looking more like something else.
Hi Jason

Yes, i can't speel!

I know its on the change over but its a Cavalier! [NOT a Toyota]

Gareth,

Can't remember the kerb weight but I had one of the very last Cavaliers it was a 2 Ltr LS, and I used it to tow a Bailey Ranger 500/5 which at the time weighed in at about 1200kg loaded.

I seem to remember several people towing with 1.8 Cavaliers at the time, someone remarked that they had quite good torque for their size.

Hi John,

My Connsette [Eddis Typhoon re-badged] is 1200Kgs all up. I was thinking of running it light. i.e strip out all unnessasary loose kit just to be on safe side.

You're right the 1.8 does seem torquey low down and it pull well higher up the rev range too.

I'm off to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix July] with a mate and thought i'd use my car so i can leave the family the Voyager.

Thanks for the info

Gareth

1995 Cavalier (Vecta-A) hatchback 1.8 was 1161kg manual or 1191kg automatic, according to Vauxhall's published information.

1997 Vectra-B was a different car.

Gareth,

One thing I forgot to mention was the noseweight.

I am sure it was 75kg on my Cavalier, but I remember that it was happier when it measured 65-70kg. Obviously that will need watching now that the Cavaliers are that much older and the suspension is probably a bit softer.

Thanks RodgerL , this gives me an '85%' weight of just 987Kgs. I'll have to strip the caravan down to MiRO weight and load every thing in the car to get this legal!

The LPG conversion will increase the kirbweight abit, but also reduce the 'payload'!

Good point on nose weight John i'll experiment with 60Kgs i have an Al-Ko friction stabiliser fitted but i don't like depending on it, rather have a safe outfit!

i'll see if i can get the caravan weighed as it stands with our normal kit in it then weigh items i remove / add for the silverstone trip.

Thanks for all your help guys

Gareth

Don't get hung up on 85%, it's only a guideline. LPG will add about 70kg to give about 1230kg kerbweight. The 1.8 Cavalier 1995 had a manufacturer's towing limit of 1300kg so you should be ok up to about 1200kg. Max noseweight was 75kg.

I've just had 7 years towing a 1218kg Pageant with a 1254kg Astra without any dramas.

hi rodger, i'm just being extra cautious as i've only ever towed our 1,200Kgs caravan with big MPVs , we had a Toyota lucida before the Voyager. as i said i'll run light to keep on safe side. only me and a mate going so car will have room for some beer!!

Thanks to all for your advice
