CC Site @ Abbeywood

Have just spent the weekend here and can't recommend it highly enough. It's a great site with great facilities, over 1000 mature trees (so the warden told me!) and lots of wildlife to watch (even being on the outskirts of London). The wardens are really friendly and helpful too.

The photos and details in the CC site book don't do it justice.

The only thing I would say is that whilst the site is very, very safe and secure, the surrounding area isn't the best and you need to be careful if walking from the train station to the site after dark and I wouldn't recommend using the trains to/from London at night or alone - I commute on this route!. I do think the wardens should tell visitors to take sensible precautions. But don't let that put you off!.

Hi David

Do they still have guard dogs patrolling the outer parimeter? We stayed there, admittedly before it was upgraded, but found it terrifying towards the end of our stay when the guards left and we were left to the devices of the local yobs. Couldn't bring myself to return there, I'm afraid, for love nor money!

No dogs these days!. The site is surrounded by a very serious electrified fence and all the gates are locked at night.

I believe the CC invested serious money in the site for the millenium (excuse the spelling!!).

Perhaps it should be renamed "Guantanamo Bay Club Site"!!!

David
