CD transfer advise

Due to car makers not putting CD players in the cars i have a problem. My old laptop had a driver in it so i could rip cd,s onto it then transfer onto a stick to play in car. Now the laptop is in recycle heaven my new one has no optical drive. Question is can anybody recommend a external drive that is easy to work for this auld codger, and must be cheap. TIA.

The one John has linked to will do the job you want, no point spending any more.
You will however still need a "Ripping" programme, you may well already have it on your new laptop, if not there are plenty of free ones online.

Pretty much any external Dvd/Cd reader/writer with usb interface will do the job.

Does your car radio have a usb port? Mine does so I load my music onto a usb memory stick and play them from that.

Other options are...

If you have a smartphone and your car has Bluetooth, copy the music to your phone and stream it from that. Even without Bluetooth you may be able to connect a lead from your phone's headphone socket to the aux input on the car radio.

Read the original post, the OP talks about transferring music "to a stick to play in car"
But doesn't he have to rip the music off a CD onto the laptop to then transfer it to a USB, and his new laptop doesn't have a CD drive.

You are correct.

The original post was perfectly clear

"My old laptop had a driver in it so i could rip cd,s onto it then transfer onto a stick to play in car."

Jcloughie posted a link to a CD drive, I endorsed that, and added that the OP would need some ripping software #3

Sam Vimes then questioned whether the OP had a USB socket in his cars radio #5

I pointed out, in #7 that the OP had mentioned a USB stick in his original post, which Sam acknowledged in #8

So all necessary points, CD drive, the need for ripping software, and the fact the OP had a USB drivl were covered very early on.

It certainly helps a lot to read ALL of the posts to check on the contents prior to posting to prevent the doubling up of information.

If we want to be completely pedantic the original post stated that his laptop had a  driver in it. I wasn't aware of any laptop having seats for a driver.

Equally my wife uses a stick but there's no way to plug it into the radio even if she could walk without it.
😄😄😄

While not answering your question there are alternatives for playing phone music through existing radios.
Ph talks to device via BT and it transmits music on FM frequency which your car or caravan radio can pickup. USB is only power device.
There are other versions that are powered by 12v socket.

I just found this on AliExpress:
NZ$4.93 | Bluetooth 5.3 Car FM Transmitter Receiver Mini USB Power Wireless Auto Audio Car Adapter Handsfree Call Car Auto Accessories

I gave up with CDs a while ago and just use Spotify that way not listening to same old albums all time. Free if happy to listen to adverts. Need to pay sub to downoad and play offline.
