Lovely little car. We had a Singer Chamois and at least once a month would travel from Plymouth to Leicester with two kids, the Jack Russell and cat. When solo I would place a large bag of sand into the front boot to help keep it in line.
Hi Clive we use have Parson Jack Terrier and a cat and when we took him for a walk the cat use to follow us around the estate we had some looks from the neighbours .

1977 I did my driving course and test in two weeks in an Army landrover in central London. Terrifying but passed first time. A week later I bought an old Morris 1800 for £150 and two weeks later it was written off by a London taxi which jumped a stop line. No-one was hurt but he had the only witness in his cab who said I was at fault. No idea how they worked it out but the police believed him and I got a £30 fine and three points.

I might be wrong but in those days there were only one tunnel used which meant traffic travelling both ways which makes lots of difference as today. As for Dartford I use that quite often and with the caravan when people creep up beside you it makes your backside pucker at times.

Amazing! For 10 months I had an old Austin 1800 , land crab. A great spacious car that did everything asked of it. Another BMC mess up.Didn’t know what they had.

Hi John Bet you had a nice time driving on lesson 1 what was the next one like :)

The instructor was really good. On subsequent lessons we went around the bombed out flattened unlit areas of Bootle at night. No road markings, I had to work out where to give way based on the road camber. If I got it wrong he just slammed his break on. Helped me remember for the future.

I did not like driving the Austin A40, so my dad let me do the test in his new Corsair. The window had to be open so I could do the hand signals. It was cold and there was a hail storm. Hail was bouncing off my face. I looked at the examiner, he had his hands cupped around the warm air outlet. OK for some I thought. Nice chap though, he passed me.

I passed in a 3 speed Ford Anglia with side valve engine. Less than a year later I had to do my driving test again in Landrovers and on motorcycles when I joined the BSAP police in Rhodesia.
