Brand new van, third time out. About to leave the pitch last weekend. "Tyre looks a bit low" moved it a bit , huge great nail in the tread. As we had never changed a caravan wheel before, Daryll the warden at the CC site provided invaluable assistance. (OK we are total idiots, he soon sussed this and did it for us). Anyway on arriving home I decided to read the caravan handbook on this subject (are these handbooks badly translated from Chinese?). It said, in bold print, the caravan and car must be hitched together before jacking up the caravan. First, ours wasn't, we were still,on the pitch, have we done irreperable damage? Second that seems counter-intuitive, why do they neeed to be hitched together?

First of all, no you have not done any damage to the van.

The reason the manufacturer states that the van must be hitched to the car is because if it isn't, and it's on un-even ground, the van may pivot on the one wheel remaining in contact with terra firma. Even with the handbrake applied.

Hi Mel , they say to hitch to car so less chance of rolling off the jack but as long as the wheels are chocked it doesn't matter.

Had to change one of my wheels last year when I caught a kerb and found the wheelbrace supplied with the van didn't even fit ;O(

mayday soon sorted it even though we were on site.
