I have Tyron bands on my wheels as a safety precaution but what a hassle they are when it comes to changing the tyres. Even companies recommended by Tyron to change the tyres can't do it or won't do it. We are beginning to regret splashing out £200 on the bands 4 years ago as at the moment I cannot get any one in the Worcestershire area to change the tyres, that is remove the wheels or alloys from the caravan and then change them!

there is a tyron tool that you can buy, that gives you chance to take the tyron bands off a good caravan dealer will be able to give you a price, so if the tyre firm will let you, when they have taken one side of the tyre off you use your tyron tool to take off the bands they remove tyres and put them back on and then you put the bands on as necessary ( messy and long winded)
BEST JOB if you are changing your tyres, take it to a caravan dealer who can take the tyrons off change the tyres
and put the tyrons back on 1 hours charge though, approx FOR 2 TYRES

The principal behind tyre bands has been explored on this forum before. suffice to say that I along with some other forum members have been unable to find a good conclusive evidence based reason to use such bands on normal caravans and cars.
I personally would not bother to have them refitted. but it is really a matter of personal choice.

I had to have a new tyre and as the local man did not stock it i bought it elswhere and had him fit it, when i asked him has he done it before the reply was yes and the price would be
John L, a good friend of ours had a puncture/blow out on the motorway and if it had not been for the Tyron bands, there may have been a different story. I am convinced that they work but are a hassle when it comes to replacing a tyre even when you have the key. In a way I agree with your sentiments!
I don't want to start the Tyron band discussion all over again, but how can you be so sure that the experience that your friend had would have been any worse without them? Tyron themselves have never come up with any convincing proof. In their advertising they only show how well vehicles have performed with Tyron bands but never provided any comparative information on what the outcome would have been without them under the same conditions.

You could equally apply the same negativity to the stabiliser hitch, the principles are sound in both cases but their abilities are always going to be limited

No, the difference a stabiliser makes is well documented ( or else one wouldn't know that their ability - at least those of the frictional type - is limited), but at least one can decide for one's self whether the improvement that they offer is worth the money. On the other hand, nowhere can one find equivalent information whether Tyron bands offer any improvement at all, or under what conditions.
i have seen a caravan where it has had a blow out and yes all caravans are different, but the tyres can make a hell of a mess of the side of the van and wheel arches and insides
yes insurance covers it but its about not smashing your pride and joy if it happens
BUT the main reason is that they give stability if the blow out occurs on a motorway at speed, on single axle units if the tyre blows and rips off completely the scenario is horrendous

many of you will have seen my previous posting when I had a tyre burst and turn over the car and caravan in May
I am collecting a replacement caravan next week and I am havinf the bands fitted.
Whether or not they work is only one consideration as they are giving my wife peace of mind , not wishing to see an air ambulance land beside us again

Lutz my friend, there are only 2 people on this forum and you are the only 2 people that i have ever hear state that tyrons are not worth having, its time you stopped with your negativity on this subject. you and john both state that there is no like for like proof that these items actually work, well i saw the videos when tyrons first came out and if they are good enough for the police fire brigade ambulance service and armed forces in the uk then they are good enough for me.
your first post stated you did not want to start this debate again but you have posted twice now discounting the benefits that most others are happy to agree on.
on the thread subject, ive had no trouble getting my tyres repaired with the tyrons fitted, all "ats" centers are capable as are caravan dealer service centers, you should have received the removal long allen key when you had them fitted.

"Runflats" would certainly be a better option. Tyron bands are not meant to be able to do the same job and, to be fair, Tyron have never claimed that either. The big problem with "runflats" is that there are currently so few on the market in the sizes and load carrying capacities that you need for a caravan.
