hi can anybody tell me where i can find the battery charging unit on a 93 swift challenger and is there a fuse inside that could have blown. many thanks steve

hello.

most chargers have a fuse. usually a 10 amp. but i think most of the modern units on sale will do the job, zig do a very good unit. you can get them on ebay brand new from

sorry about that, i am getting my threads mixed up. yes the charger i under the bunk, and it will have its own 10 amp fuse.

Stephen, you should have a power distribution unit fitted.

Normally it would be either under the bed locker, or it may be a unit built in elsewhere.

It may be a PMS unit or a Zig, or a Sargent.

If either of those, the charger is inbuilt.

If it is a stand alone unit, it will be reasonably close to the back of the battery box

Stephen, Don't know if this will help but last year our charger failed (we thought) on our 2007 Senator. In our case the charger was located within the rcd/fuse box and was accessed by taking off the outer plastic box. This revealed that the charger plug had come out and simply replugging cured the problem. Think that this is effected by vibration in transit as the same thing has happened again this year, have now replaced plug with a spot of superglue. Incidentally I found the indicator is if the control box is cold. When the the charger is connected and working OK it gets quite warm.

Difficult one to call but as far as I remember Swift used 'plug in systems' kit so it will be either a standalone KT12 or KT12SM charger, both of which are black boxes about the size of one and a half house bricks.

Or, in 93 the same charger may be inside a main distribution box? (93 being the first year they did this I think?).

If it is built in, then it will be a PMS1 and about the size of a small cream briefcase, under a bunk or in the wardrobe

Dr Gary is correct. I had a 93 Swift Challenger 490 and the Mains Uni/ charger with fuses was in the front offside bed base screwed to the wardrobe end panel. Cream in colour about 12" x 8". It was the first van I had with a reverse polarity indicator as red telltale on top of this unit.

The charging circuit is inside this unit as a PC board about 6" x4". The unit is pop rivetted together and must be drilled to disassemble.

Easy to identify problem board burnt/overheating.

I had the board repaired by local PC/TV eng. The board was identical to the then main PC power supply board.

Ours is located under the seat, but is Grey and fixed solid with fuses all down the right hand side.. Just trying to find one now as battery was draining fast on hols even on hook up....

Hi Stephen, I have the 1990 450/5 challenger and my charger is behind the fuse panel on the offside top locker near the front of the caravan. I know they do vary in different vans.
