i,v heard a rumour that sites could soon be charging owners of large tents (over 7 meters) 2 pitch fees.i fully understand that if you use 2 you pay for 2,that only fair, but usually the tent fits in the space and its the ropes that take up that bit of extra room isnt it? .has any one got any more feedback on this issue?

Hello Richard,

Site owners are free to set their own scale of charges. There is no standard that applies to all sites, so if a site owner decides that a large tent uses more than one pitch then they can charge more.

Only if you could show that your tent and its guy ropes etc is contained within one pitch and does not cause an unreasonable risk to adjacent pitches, (fire or other nuisances), then you might have a case for unfair contract. You would need to seek professional legal advice.

Only problem we have ever had when this happened to us and the guy ropes came over onto our pitch was that the darn things were black!

You could not see them in the dark - after several trips and shouts from those inside the "offending" tent - we all had a chat the next morning and they moved the tent - not an easy job as it was a huge dome tent with three bedroom area "spokes".

Just a couple of foot did the job and they also tied white string to the guy ropes adjacent to our pitch.

I wonder if this double charge for 7M tents is because Health & Safety rules now stipulate that a gap of 3M must be provided between your awning and the next caravan.

I am not sure how this equates to tents, but the one I mention above was so large that it was within feet of my caravan and the guy ropes initially were almost under my caravan.

Can you provide a link to the Health and Safety rule of 3metres as I will print it off for when I am on rallies as sometimes there is not 3feet let alone 3 meters

John,

Not all but a lot seem work on 10m X 10M or about 30' X 30' but we normally ask what size pitch they are when booking.

Fire bucket hmmmm only one to keep you warm at night never seen one put out for fire fighting yet.

Corner plots tend to be bigger than standard plots as well because of the shape of them, quite a few sites now put a site layout on there web pages so you can get a fair idea of the bigger plots before you book.
