Check lists

Does anyone know of the existence of a check list for travelling with your van i.e. vents closed, steadies up etc. and also my wife wants to know if a check list for loading the van i.e. tea, coffee, towels, bed linen exists
 
If you are Caravan Club members there is a list, for checking before leaving and on arrival, in the back of the members handbook.

Many years ago my wife aquired a diary.She made out a list of every single item you would ever need in a van.Against the list she put columns across the page.

Every time we go away ,at the top of the column she puts the destination,and then we tick off the list as we load.Some items remain in the van but these are also ticked off.

It's interesting to look back.We can see where we'd been,when the kids came with us and of course what we used to take with us compared to now.

When we first started we always forgot some part of the procedure,so I then made my own list which I still check when we are getting ready to move off.

I also have lists in the van to check food supplies etc.better safe than sorry.

i made a list which i then laminated and it's kept in the van all season,though like many others i keep most of the stuff in the van , the only thing to go in when we go away is food, clothes n t.v
 
Hi, I use an excel spreadsheet which has van items and car items. All items will have been weighed before inclusion in the sheet. So for example I have general haeding of 'Fridge food' and this allows my wife to put 8kg in the fridge. There is then a sub-list showing her what is included in the 8kg. We now have spraedsheets for weekends winter/summer, week and two week holidays for uK and abroad. All we hav eto do is print it off a few days before going and get the gear together. The list is ticked off as items go into the car or van. If you don't have Excel try Open Office it is free and as good as Microsoft.

Brave fellow Clive - I have to wait until the fridge is loaded, cosmetics and cleaning stuff stowed and the many and varied vitamin supplements etc. are aboard. Then I estimate by eye and see what - if any - weight there is to spare for the odd bottle, MP3 player or even laptop !

Seriously I think you idea's very good. If you did a few more sums you could perhaps get to a correct noseweight too. I did try a basic form of your system for things I take but hope never to use and where they are stowed - this (in theory) avoids taking hte whole van apart on the rare occaision when I do need the thing.
