Whilst they don’t advertise it there’s a large extra tax take due to inflation., house price increases, fuel increases etc. But pensioners haven’t done too badly through the Triple Lock this last two years.
The Triple Lock is a must keep. However don’t get excited. I’ll clap once the O A Pension equals the minimum wage!

The triple lock merely covers the big increase in prices over these two years - income tax has taken a bigger proportion of that income due to the freeze in income tax thresholds leaving pensioners worse off.

Remember that those who retired on the "old" state pension despite 44 years qualifying get a lot less than those retiring on the New State Pension with 30 years qualifying.

The freezing of tax thresholds affects all taxpayers whether working or retired. Its touch and go if in FY 2024/5 I might even be shoved into a higher bracket.

Oh come on lads and lasses, which ever government we have, we are told to "Save and Invest " for our old age, and why, so the government on seat can tax us,
This year's tax bill was £40 more than last year's, and that's from moving my retirement money around, and I am NOT in the 40 % tax payers rate.
I can't claim for two new tyres and a new gas hose, for the caravan.

I belive it is how serious the problem is. In my case in having come out of hospital only eight days I threw another wobbly by going to my GP who said A&E as suspect pneumonia. Got neighbour to take me. It went like this.At reception told wait in queue. About 5 minutes grabbed by nurse who took details. Sat down again.Few mins later taken to another nurse who hooked me up.. Again sat down amongst the crowd in there. Now porter with wheelchair took me to xray. Long wait about 10 min !.The whole experience was a bit bewildering in how good the system can be. Mid Essex.

Yes it is - A&E departments have a well established triage assessment procedure, once that's done patients are dealt with in priority sequence so it's the less critical patients that get the longest wait when A&E is busy or overloaded.

Those working have had an NI cut to counter the effective tax rise from the freezing of tax thresholds - but pensioners haven't.
It’s not long since 1.25 % NI increase was applied to ring fence funds for the NHS and Social Care. It’s very unusual in this country to ring fence elements of the Exchequer’s Consolidated Fund. But with the latest reduction in NI either the NHS/Social Care will loose out, or some other area of expenditure will be subject to cuts.
