Perhaps mine is older being a 2007 model hence the extra compared to your's.

Hi Kev ours is 2002 with 112k on clock used mainly as tow car, with the ongoing diesel debate and the new VED rates I am thinking of going Korean as VED will be £190 if I can find low mileage used example. Not sure where the tow car market is heading if you are looking for substantial towing limit but don't want the high taxation penalty.
I think your car would be high VED as 2007-2011 were higher anyway, after 2011 they came down again but the rates I am quoting apply to cars registered from 1 March 2001-31 March 2017

Thanks woodsieboy, I should have got a 2006 model then!! But then I would be hit now any way.
Had the 3.0l sport before this one and that was £295.00, but hey ho I like the car so have to pay up I'm afraid.
Let us know if/when you change mate, may help later when I have to change.

........it is still set to be £295 for the coming year.
A 2002 Shogun is in band K and that band is set at that rate.

That increase is what it is , the one i would be worried about is the planned VED change for older diesel in the Autumn budget.
This has been talked about and the word is the older diesel you have , you will be hit with a further increase in VED.
Diesels are very unpopular on the air pollution front now due to the NOX gases, so anything below Euro 6 will be hit on a sliding scale?

Are you sure you've not been told what the tax is for a new registration? Thst seems very steep!!
The Antara which is a 2013 registrstion is £210 for the year ..... still alot but it's a dirty thing on emissions!

As registered disabled and in receipt of enhanced PIP (previously DLA) I have the advantage of not paying to tax my car.

Little enough to smile about Prof so it's one advantage I have.

Update provided today and Gaffer Bill seems to be the nearest, there is an exemption for vehicles that are over 225 g emissions that were registered before 23 March 2006, although the new rate from 1 st April 2017 will be £305 per year. Many thanks to Gaffer and everybody else that replied, so nowhere near as bad as I initially thought.

i'd be interested to hear where you came upon this info? as far as i am aware London is introducing an extra levie to enter the congestion zone with pre, circa 2006 Euro 4 cars ,that means BOTH petrol and diesel vehicles....As most test with NOX concerns have been aimed at diesel in the last few years, its now clear that Petrol cars are also smashing through the so called Nox limits set for petrol vehicle with brand new fords little 1 litre turbo engine being 15 times worse than the acceptable level. . No doubt when they [and they will] scrutinize petrol cars in the same way they have been diesels ,the true picture will become clear...So i do wonder how if indeed the government is thinking to do something what actually can it do to diesels vehicles that wouldnt have calls for the same action on petrol vehicles....

Got my order in just in time and dumped the diesel just in case they get hit in the near future. Just need some guy in Gent to get it on a boat accross the North Sea sharpish. For those wanting a petrol engine with any towing ability they are pretty thin on the ground though.

It was in a budget review program last week, they thought it was going to be introduced this time around but have delayed it until the Autumn.
Also talk of an old diesel scrappage scheme.

interesting thread yes the ved prices my be increased ,but think of this changing from diesel to a petrol vehicle the much lower fuel consumption petrol will give you could realy outweigh any savings on ved .my alahmbra 1.9 diesel solo up to 50 mpg ,towing mid thirties .an 2.3 petrol galaxy ,same car realy lucky to get mid thirties solo and much less towing .

I agree the higher fuel consumption of petrol does make them pissibly more expensive to run but this should be offset by the higher cost of a diesel car for many. My point is that the politicians might be lining up to hammer the diesel and if they do the second hand values will tumble.

i have no doubt our dear government will be looking at diesel cars and planning to increase taxation on them .i cannot realy see them hiking the diesel price more than a few pence realy as this will increase hauliers costs and i dont think they realy want that ,unless they make some concession for hgv users but there will be a hike in ved rates i am sure . and yes it may bring the price of diesel cars down on the second hand market ,but looking at that in a selfish way its good for such as us motorists that frankly buy older cars .anyway we will see what happens and i suppose moan but carry on regardless .i know that i will be in the market for another alahmbra or one of its sisters from ford or v.w ,and with the fuel consumption i am getting from them it will definitely be a diesel as the petrol versions would cost a lot more to run .maybe if i could find one a lpg converted one would be better but i am unsure of there towing performance .
