Just looking for an overnight stay before getting the ferry. We don't want to stay at the port as we will have virtually a day to look around the area and would not want to leave the caravan at the port.

There is a camp site close to the port, Anse du Brick, a Castels site. However, we always aim to end up at Le Cormoran at Ravenoville Plage, Normandy. It is only 40 mins from the port but a loveley site and now this year it has a covered heated swimming pool.

Camping Le Grand Large is about 15 miles from Cherbourg at Les Pieux on the west coast. It has an area for late arrivals and early departures. There is also direct access to the beach.

Thanks for the info. Someone has told me there is a site fairly near the Auchan junction used to be called Les Pins but may have changed to Le Village Vert or similar, does anyone know of this site ?

According to The Caravan Club's Caravan Europe vol 1, Camping Le Village Vert is mainly statics some very delapidated. There is the possibility of itinerants and limited space for tourers. The pitches are spacious but possibly waterlogged in wet weather.

We always stay at the municipal site in St Mere Eglise. It about 25kms from Cherbourg very quite in middle of village, a local supermarket near by and close to coast, and a direct run to ferry port.
