Children roaming freely on campsite

Hi all, After arriving at my pitch and reversing the van onto the pitch, I noticed a small child walking around on the pitch without parental supervison I stopped what I was doing and then checked if it was clear however later that evening, I got a knock on the door and it was the same child asking if I had seen his friends, So my question is shouldn't children be supervised while on the site?

Oh Dear Abbey Owner, you hve just opened one of the famous "Can of Worms"!

Of course children should be supervised on site, but many are not for one reason or another.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if you had not seen the child on the pitch you were reversing on to,,,,,,the outcome could have been fatal.

Considering what has happened in Wales this week, you would think that everybody responsible for children would take more care.
I have seen children being looked after by grandparents, that quite frankly look as if they have enough trouble looking after themselves let alone grandchildren.

Having had three children I know it can be a problem watching them all the time but letting them wander around alone is just asking for trouble.

Does no one remember the good old days when children played out and they weren't sat in front of the TV 24/7 or surgically attached to PC's,mobile phone or Play Stations?
Our children spent many happy holidays playing in the correct places on campsites, wandering hand in hand to the camp pools (with lifeguards). If we'd had a single child we would have had a different strategy.
Children have to have some freedom ! A lot of the UK camping-caravanning fraternity should take a few lessons from our EU camping-caravanning cousins and their sites.

When our three are out they are all together, usually walking the dowgs (on leads) carrying poo bags and at least one mobile with them. As far as walking behind reversing traffic plenty of idiots walk behind me in our local marks and spencer car park and seem oblivious to the fact that a large wheel mounted on the back of a high car complete obscures their progress!! Of course we are usually in a fairly empty field on a CL somewhere quiet! That way we avoid a lot of the GOG's that want to sit peacefully watching constipation street on their wide screen televisions while the peeps and the dowgs want to be outside in the fresh air with a barking rating of 10 and a screaming and shouting rating off the scale!!

We often go on C&CC rallies and children who also attend are encouraged to play all together outside away from caravans and to explore woodland and make dens etc.
They are always within somebody's field of vision and earshot and regulars on rally fields immediately notice any strange vehicles not connected with the rally or any unusual activity so they are quite safe.
The children grow up to be polite, helpful and friendly well adjusted teenagers because they are allowed to learn to socialise with people of all ages when they are away with their parents on the rallies.
These young adults often become memers of their own youth sections which they help to run.
They go on their own (adult supervised) camping trips in good weather away from the main rallies, the older youth members keep their eye on the slightly younger ones and they take part in many events in aid of charity.
It seems to me that generally speaking we have become suspicious and afraid of our own young people, always quick to condemn them rather than looking at them in a positive way as valuable members of society who will thrive and prosper with our support, guidance and encouragement.
