Certainly get a C5 as a towcar - they are great, but I have heard that the 1.6HDi even struggles to pull the weight of the C5 solo. Best of the range is the 2 litre.

the C5 has to be one of the best tow cars we've ever had. the 2 litre one is very good, but we have the 2.2 and it has alot more grunt when it comes to pulling the 'van. the VTR is the mid range model, with the VTR+ being nearly the top. i would personaly opt for this one as it has just that little bit more kit in it for a similar price. also, the estate version has a button in the boot for raising and lowering the rear end of the car without the engine on. this helps tremendously when hitching up. it's a good solo car (our 2.2 gets 44 mpg easily, so a 2.0 should be even better) but towing expect less than 25 mpg. also, go for a 'facelift' model, should you decide to buy, (54 plate to 57) as these offer excellent value for money if you are buying used, as the earlier models can be a bit problematic.

The model I looked at was the facelift but after a test drive I decided not to buy. It seemed a bit under powered and dread to think what it would be like with a van on the back.

I'll keep my eyes open for a 2.0 or 2.2 thaks for the input.

Are you sure the nose weight limit for the car is 100kg?

I wasn't aware of a "normal" road car with a limit of 100kg

Yes, 100kg is quite correct for the Rover 75. You've got an excellent towcar there. I had two of them, the latter being a 131 bhp Tourer which took us all over the Continent and of course here in the UK.

If you've not already found it, I can recommend this forum: -
