CL Norfolk Suffolk coast

Has anyone any good recommendations for a CL near to the best bird watching sites in Norfolk and Suffolk. Electrics plus any other benefits !

Would be interested in the answers to this as well, Dave. The only Suffolk site I know of is a commercial site near Dunwich Heath not too far away from Minsmere RSPB reserve. Haven't stayed at it as we usually stay in a friends cottage in Southwold, but had a look round. Its right on the coast and seemed a ok. The tourers area is on the NT road to Dunwich Heath, but its not that heavily used. Otherwise only the sounds of the sea and birdsong I would think. There is a pub at Eastbridge (the other side of Minsmere) called the Eelsfoot, which has an area for caravans at the back, what the facilities are I don't know, but I think they had EHU's. Look forward to seeing any more replys to this thread

We stayed at a terrific CL in Darsham, Suffolk last year in June. It was only a short cycle/drive from the coast. It had 5 hardstandings, each with hookup and no extra units stuffed in to crowd the site. For those without bikes, there was cycle hire on site. I can't remember the exact listing and all our references have been buried by builders/decorators etc but I'm sure you can find it on the website. The only downside was that there wasn't a local hostelry providing the option of a meal out without driving but its one we would return to.

Hi Dave, We are avid birdwatchers too and for a good base can recommend Mill Farm CL at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk. It has EHU and a fantastic panoramic view from every pitch, across fields to the distant pine woods of Holkham, (where many rarities regularly turn up and which has a fantastic beach the other side of the pines (BEWARE the tide comes in very fast and can cut you off). You can walk there from the CL. It also has distant views of the saltings and the inlet to Wells harbour. You can easily walk into Wells-next-the-Sea on a private farm footpath that runs from the CL. From the harbour runs a sea wall with a footpath, to the beach (across the road from the start of the sea wall is a miniature railway if you don't feel like walking). The harbour has a fresh fish stall and for great fish & chips try 'French's' chip shop opposite the harbour. For great pub meals, try 'The Bowling Green' pub (opposite the Church), booking is essential.

This CL is within easy striking distance of Titchwell RSPB reserve and Holme Dunes NWT reserve. NOTE: Pinewood caravan site at the end of the sea wall is huge and very busy, with lots of statics and not recommended if you like the peace of CL's.

Forgot to mention that from the CL at Mill Farm, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk you can also go in the other direction a few miles along the coast to the birdwatchers Mecca of Cley-next-the-Sea. There are thatched hides dotted around the reed beds and we often see more 'goodies' here than at Titchwell RSPB reserve. There is a brand new centre beside the road with toilets and you get permits from here. You can get something to eat and drink in the cafe which overlooks reed beds to the sea beyond from windows that line the front of the cafe. It also has a small shop. Safe parking is in front of the centre and you simply cross the road for the walkway to the hides. Don't forget the famous East Bank. There is a small car park beside the East Bank, but don't leave valuables in your car here, as there have been thefts from vehicles.

Brilliant 5 van site with electrics and showers behind Cley on North Norfolk Coast. Called the Sheiling in CC book

Walks and pubs abound,. Nr Norfolk wildlife site for birders.
