Hello everybody, I am new here. I have a Compass Rallye 634 with an inboard water tank. The manual says to perodically clean the water heater with wine vinegar. How do I do this without buying gallons of the vinegar? How long do I leave it before flushing out?

Use White Wine vinegar about 50/50, mix in the aquaroll and fill the water heater, leave for 24 hours and drain into a container for re use.

The water system uses about 12 ltrs in total, so 6 ltrs of vinegar

Alternatively, there are proprietary cleaners for home brewing vessels. These will be good cleaners, and perhaps not taint the water container as much as wine vinegar.

Always thoroughly the system through after using any cleaning agent.

That's interesting because we were told to use white vinegar ( acetic acid) to clean all the glass parts of the ponds uv clarifiers. I've never used it on the caravan but wonder how different white wine vinegar is? wwv is made from red or white wine so it must be more expensive and taste horrible? Worse than the Milton solution I use?
One for me to investigate further.

I phoned Truma regarding this subject. They replied saying that the reason that white wine vinigar is advised is simply that it is less pungent than the normal white vinigar(allthough they did advocate their new product)
white wine vinigar is/was recommended by them for the removal of lime scale from the water heater only. The system should still be steralized using a product such as Milton,BUT this should never be left standing in the system as it can deteriate the stainless steel of the hot water container
Ihave just done my 6 year old van with a 50/50 solution of ordinary white vinigar left in for 48hrs & there is no taint after rinsing it through
