Hi Folks,

Any recommendations for a site close to Dover please, for perhaps two nights, this would be in May. We have booked an 8-15 am ferry, so would need to be on the dock at about 7-15am

Cheers Graham

Hi Graham

For the last 2 years we have stayed at Little Switzerland near Folkestone when catching the Norfolk Line Ferry. It does not have gate or barriers and it is possible to leave at any time that suits - we caught early ferries both years. It is about half an hour from Dover ferry terminal. On some pitches it is possible to stay hooked-up - ideal for an early getaway.

We have found the staff friendly and helpful. The site has lovely views over the channel from the restaurant which serves good food at reasonable prices.

We phone on the way down to book as travelling around the M25 makes arrival times uncertain and have got in both years. The site caters for people travelling to/from Continent and has a high turnover pitches so that it usully has room.

In 2008 we stayed for a few days and visited Dover Castle, etc.

You can read reviews of the site here:

Hi Folks

My name is Brian I am going on my first trip to Europe with my wife in our Motorhome on the 17th November. Travelling from Calais to Moraira on the Costa Blanca. We intend to have perhaps 4 stops on the way down. Problem is we are having trouble finding caravan sites open this time of year. Especially one with in an hour or so of Calais. We always stay on CL sites in Britton, so are not looking for anything more than a safe stop off, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Brian and Marlene

Hi Brian - this website should help you locate overnight stops near the main routes through most of Europe

http://users.telenet.be/leo.huybrechts/camp1.htm
All sites within 15km of the major routes are listed, and those open all year are highlighted in red, with POI information available, plus brief details of the site/date/etc.
