Clutch Cable

I've a '96 Ducato to which an incorrect clutch cable was fitted 12 months ago (part number supplied by Fiat who no longer make the cables). I now have a very stiff clutch resulting in 2 broken clutch pedals in the last year. Worse, the new cable was put in with a new clutch - clutch failed and was replaced under warranty, new clutch has now failed.
Fiat now have provided a part number which dealers in cables don't recognise.
Using the Vehicle Identification Number the cable suppliers can narrow it down to one of three options - each a different length.
I've been told that the VIN is probably the problem from when the vehicle was supplied by Fiat to CI Caravans in Italy, and that Coastal Motorhomes can sometimes find the answer - Coastal have not responded to my query - please has anyone got a suggestion?

Wish I could help Ken.
Clutch cables eh, who'd have 'em?
I still remember when Ford introduced the Escort, with a clutch cable, to replace the Anglia, which had a hydraulic clutch. I felt then it was a retrograde step! The TV rental firm I worked for suffered loads of broken cables, and we all had to learn how to get home without using the clutch!
