Coachman mirowave - in or out for towing?

I will soon take delivery of a 2009 Coachman, with standard microwave oven fitted. I am told that Coachman suggest this is removed for travelling. I understand the need to remove the glass plate, but the actual unit? Is it a weight / height issue? What do other Coachman owners do?
Thanks,
Paul

I have been advised not to travel with the microwave in the cupboard due to the weight at high level.

I travel with the microwave on the floor at the back of the van as a counter weight and when on site I set it up in the awning on a table. I then have a spare cupboard for food etc.

My Eldiss has one but it is a screw driver job to get it out. The handbook does not say anything about removing it, but in fact for our long summer holiday without an EHU I do remove it and leave it behind. It is heavy and high up.

I travel with the microwave in-situ in my Coachman Festival - never had a problem. There is a wooden bar across the front of the unit which stops the microwave from moving,

We have a 2010 Coachman Pastiche 560/4 complete with high-level microwave. I have looked through all the Coachman literature, i.e. handbooks etc. and nowhere does it say you must remove the microwave before travelling. However in some early sales literature it was said that you could remove the microwave if required at times to give yourselves an extra high level cupboard. It is easy to do as the bar that is fitted just above the microwave pulls off forward - a little hard first time but get your fingers on one side and give it a pull then do the other side. you then lift the front of the microwave up and pull it forwards, remembering to remove the 13 Amp plug first and allow it to drop down the back. The microwave is heavy so please protect the glass lid of the hob beneath (on our model) so that you can rest it on it when you lift it down.
On our recent trip to France we found that the microwave had slewed round in the housing and on investigation one of the front feet at the bottom of the microwave had broken off and it needs both feet to sit in little recessed cups to hold it in place. Whilst further travelling we packed the microwave around the outside with tea towels to limit it moving and when we got home I contacted the microwave manufacturer, Sanyo, service department for spare feet and they say that they don't keep spares of this item. Fortunately I found some screw-in feet of a similar diameter in my bits and pieces collection at home and fitted one and now all seems well. I will now be checking every time we travel to see that it has not happened again as it is only the front two feet that really hold it in place.
Regards
Alan

I travel with the microwave in place and use the original packing to keep the plate in place. There is no recommendation to remove it in the 2010 handbook though it is an easy job. I will be removing it soon as the cupboard is more use than the microwave as very rarely on hook ups.

We have a VIP 2009. Microwave is really secure although weighs about 12kg. We have taken ours out recently but only to save weight. Its position was such that although high it was over the axle to its effect was minimal

We have a Coachman Amara 2010 and have had no problems with the microwave or anything else for that matter, a brilliantly built caravan. As per a previous post we package the turntable etc in the original packaging for travelling but having toured over 4000 miles this year the microwave has not moved a millimeter. Unless you absolutely have to I would travel with it where it is.
