Cobb BBQ

Sorry if this has been posted before. Having tried the 'Search' section nothing came back!

Has anyone out there tried the Cobb BBQ and, if so, what are your thoughts on them. We love to bbq but, only being two of us, don't want to lug around a large piece of kit which wouldn't get used daily, unless the sun shines.

We bought one last year. We used it 3 times then threw it in a skip. It did not reach high enough temperatures for barbecuing.

It wwas ok for cooking without the charing on the surface of the food but you can do that in you oven

Thanks for your reply Colin A. Thought perhaps there was some problem as they are currently 'off loading' at what appears to be a v reasonable price. Have taken your comments on board. Won't bother!!!

Hi Ann, Beg to differ with Colin A. I have had one for 3 years and consider them excellent. We have roasted whole chickens, joints of lamb as well as the usual bbq foods. To roast large pieces of meat you cook with the lid on, for smaller items, cook with the lid off.I wonder if Colin was cooking with the right fuel. It really is essential to use a product such as Heatbeads. These are widely available and you use only half a dozen of these at a time. You must wait until they have turned white before starting to cook, as indeed you should on any bbq. The other advantages are that Cobbs are very portable and they don't get hot on the outside so you can set it up on a table with some newspaper underneath to catch the odd drip. Seriously, I wouldn't be without mine. Now where's that skip Colin used.....Best Wishes, George T.

Yes we used heat beads and waited till they were white. if you search the internet there has been an ongoing debate about whether these things work for years. I decided to take the gamble but it didnt work for me.
