Has anyone experienced this? We have just had a new window fitted to our 2006 Sterling Eccles Onyx (the large centre one at the front)We had to have a new one as the original had delaminated at one side. We went to collect it today and the new window is a completely different colour to the ones either side. The colour difference shows up mainly round the edges of the window and the new one is grey and the adjacent ones are brown.

We were told by the dealer that in about 3 months time the new window will have changed and will be the same as the others but we have rejected it as it looks completely wrong and we don't know whether what they say is correct.

Whilst we were there we looked at some other 2006 Sterlings, most had brown windows but one in the workshops had grey windows. The man at the workshop said that maybe this one had been stored under cover and not used much and therefore the windows had stayed grey rather than turning more brown.

We don't know what to believe at the moment.

Oklahoma this is very interesting to me. I have a 2006 Bessacarr Cameo and the 3 front windows definitely have a brown tinge around the edge. I have 2 friends both who have the same caravan as me delivered to them in February 2007. Their windows are definitely grey. We noticed it when parked next to one another at a rally recently.

At the end of the month I am having 2 of my front windows, the centre and offside one, replaced under warranty and will carefully check them now !! I can't believe they change colour !!

Not sure of the answer, with the original at the very least I ould insist that all three were changed so that at least they all look the same. However may I suggest you phone The Exhaust Ejector Company who make replacement windows to order so must be faced daily with colour matching etc I have heard that they are very helpful.

Hi

I spent ten years working in the research labs of ICI acrylics, the makers of perspex which is one of the most UV stable of all plastics, with the normal package of uv stabilisers added the edge colour of an acrylic window is unlikely to change colour for at least ten years in the UK weather, I have been in a 20+ year old ski lift that gets serious UV attack and the acrylic windows were still water white. The acrylic used for windows will almost certainly have an impact modifier (toughener) added which gives a yellow edge colour so the manufacturer adds pigment to hide this colour, resulting in a neutral (grey) edge colour.

What has probably happened is that the window manufacturer has changed supplier or the supplier has changed their colour correction. Unless you can get a window from the old stock, the only option is to change all the windows of the Van.

Regards

Garfield

PS the guy at the workshop is, being polite, misinformed
Thank you for your replies. Someone in the workshop had spoken to Swift and had been told that the colour would change in a few months.

However this evening the Managing Director of the Dealership phoned us. He had just got back from Birmingham and is going away again tomorrow but wanted to speak to us. He's looked at the window and agrees that the difference in colour is too much. He's taken photos which he is sending to Swift and a copy to us. He agrees with us so we are happier now and hope that this can be sorted out soon.

Oklahoma, had a front nearside window replaced 4 weeks ago after having a stone thrown up from a car in france and cracked it, it was a perfect match to the other 2 windows. That was on an Abbey Vogue 495.

Hi,

Likwise had a new front window and was told the grey would change to brown. Year on and i can still see the differance although less than it was.

The dealer did not put the CRS number on the new window, does anyone know how to get a CRS number to put on the new window

Hi there

As a follow up to my original post, we have just got our caravan back and it has 3 new windows at the front which are now all grey. Thanks to the MD of the dealership who persuaded Swift to provide the windows either side of the new one at no cost to us and stood the cost of fitting them for us. The colour difference to the windows on the side of the van is not obvious and we are very happy with the outcome.

We would like to say a very big thank you to Catterick Caravans for their help, good service deserves a mention.
