hi all,

I have got a compass vantage 510 1993..the tyres are 175 x 13, I have just had new tyres fitted with a rating of up to 60 psi on the tyre wall. the caravan is 510 lenght max 1200kg. has anyone got any idea what the correct tyre pressure should be.

kwik fit said bung 30 psi in and see how it tows, I don't fancy this type of experiment...so thought you might be able to point me in the right direction.

thanks for any help..

On these matters Folk often give the advice ...'ask the experts' and that's the rubbish they come out with!!!

I have a 93 listing which says your van is 940kg empty and being a 4/5 berth I would expect a 250kg payload. So you'll need to check this but 1190kg all up.

Your tyres you say take a maximum of 60psi? I don't know any tyre like that but for this example a 175x13 8ply carries 730kgs at 65psi.

To work out an accurate pressure for 1190kg:

weight of van times a single tyre pressure, divided by total weight carrying capacity of all tyres fitted, (two or four tyres).

So in your case, 1190 times 65 divided (2x730)=1460 = 53psi

All tyre must be the same and the weight/pressure information will be written on the side wall of the tyres, hopefully the actual weight of your van should be on a plate somewhere on the van?
