Connection lead dragged on road

Hello

I'm looking for advice. On route recently, on of the connection leads - the grey one ended up touching the road while towing. As a result the thin green wire inside has been cut through. Not had this before in 8 years of towing.

What does this mean? What can we do about it, due to go away on Friday?

Many thanks

Annette

Annette, it's not a difficult job to replace the grey cable. There is usually a connection block just underneath the front of the caravan,or inside the gas locker, http://www.towitall.co.uk/trailer_wiring/instructions.htm

this link will give you the connection colors & numbers (under the list headed 12S plug)

If you do not wish to attempt this or have not enough time to get it done, can you not reconnect the green wire using a single section of connection block (choclate block) & tape up with insulation tape??

Annete as Tony said just strip enough of the green cable to allow you to join with some sort of joiner then tape up as a temp repair to get you through the holls .Also i use a small bungee cable to hold you leads up to stop what has already happened. hook the bungee around leads then around jockey wheel handle if leads come out stops them falling onto roadway

hope this helps.but not to tight that they are tight when cornering

cheers Duggie

Had similar thing happen to me on my first ever trip, but both black and grey cables were completely severed and caused damage to the indicator relay.

I never did like the idea of imparting a twist in the cables to prevent them from dragging, So I replaced them with curlies as soon as soon as I got home.

An easy and good repair is to fit a 12S plug on the existing shortened cable and then use a short lead with 12S plug on one end and 12S socket on the other

The join can be tied up under the A frame cover with nylon ties

I have this arrangement with curly cables

Hi, I usually coil the 2 cables together. When they are coiled togeter they kind of loop like a telephone wire this keeping them up away from the road.

I always loop them around the rubber gaiter once before connecting, they are then the ideal length.

They are still loose enough to move with the van when turning and there is no danger of them getting caught in the movement under the gaiter.
