Connection leads

This is my first van a Compass Pentara, is it normal for the electric connection cable to be really tight when connected.

The lights lead tends to pull out enough to break the connection.

Is it ok to fit a short extension lead if i seal it with heatshrink.

No that is not normal. There has to be enough slack to allow for sharp turns of the outfit and often the cable may even touch the ground and requires a little strap to hold it up. From the end of the towhitch another 18-24 inches should be available to you. Sounds like someone has chopped it for some strange reason.

You do not state if you have one, or two cables for the 12N and 12S sockets, or is it a 13 pin set up?

Hi Stephen, definitely not normal! I have heard of people making up a short lead to "bridge the gap" the idea being if you haven't got the "bridge" you cannot tow it away and have working lights. Quite a cheap anti-theft device but even more effective if you mix the connections up at the caravan end!

My suggestion would be to get a waterproof connection box and mount it under the a-frame so you can fit a new length of cable.
