Our two terriers came caravanning and slept in round beds on the floor at the front of the van. We have end bathroom, transverse bed layout, She is a small terrier too and as yet not housetrained but doesn't poo or pee in her crate overnight. Nearly fifteen years since we had a pup and an old van !!! Now a new one - but she is coming whatever !!

Thanks for helping. Our end bathroom is too narrow for a cage and you couldn't use the loo at night. Our initial idea is to have a cage at the front of the van with a round bed in it (so she gets used to it for when she can go loose) We will put some thin ply or something each side of the cage so she cannot chew the upholstery through the bars of the cage. Just wondered if we'd missed a more obvious solution !
We still have one adult terrier and he will sleep as usual in round bed in front of the cooker. Old dog was bit incontinent a couple of months before she died (fourteen and a half) so we put some bathroom carpet in front of her bed.

We took the metal cage that our 6 month old Cockapoo sleeps in at home, & he slept in the awning quite happily. We draped a fleece blanket over it at night to cut down the light & make it a bit warmer. One night was quite cold, (5c or maybe less), so he went in one of the fold-up fabric crates at the kids end of the van. Again, no issues & he was no trouble trying to get out etc. As soon as he came out the cage in the morning though its time to zip yourself into the sleeping bags as anything poking out is fair game. 
He also spent an afternoon in the fabric crate inside the van, as we took the children to an adventure park that wouldn't take dogs. We still had neighbours when we came back so he must have behaved himself & not howled the place down.
The fabric crate is brilliant, it folds totally flat in seconds & is easily stored in the wardrobe or under the bed. It has roll up windows & a mesh door. Its made from some seriously tough fabric, it would take a heck of a beating from a ravenous puppy. Its made by Lazy Bones.

Our 9 year old Doodle, at home will lay in his bed until 10am, but in the van gets us up before the birds start to call. Last week first time out for a month 3 am. Wet nose in my face, oh he wamts out. So on a short lead out he goes. He just sat there for 15 mimutes admiring the sky. Dragged him in again. He knows when we are away, he gets a good walk first thing, rather than wander round a big garden.
