Continental caravans

Suggest anyone having a continental van should check the fuses fitted in the spur outlets or the 3 pin mains plus which may be serving space heat, water heater and fridge.

It seems the makers just get lots of UK plugs etc all with 13 amp fuses and stick them in. The space heater (usually Carver / Truma ) needs 13 amp. but water heater and fridge should have only 5amp or there will be no protection to the elements.

Quite why these are not checked and changed as necessary at the PDI is another matter, but don't get me started on that - after all, I only paid for it !

Most Continental caravans do not have AC fuses at all but rather they have double pole MCBs.

The importers of these caravans normally just change the continental socket inserts for UK 13A ones.

In the case of my Hobby, the space heater, water heater and fridge are hard wired to double pole MCBs.
