corelle plates

I bought our melamine plates from a discount shop when my youngest daughter was 3. She is 22 now, so we have had the melamine plates a while. Thinking about replacing them with Corelle tableware. Anyone had any experience of this.

We have been using our Corelle crockery in the van for 36 years. In all that time only 1 dish broken, many years ago, (fell out of a cupboard onto the cooker) replaced it on a car boot. But sadly not able to match it exactly, and they were no longer available new, but grandaughter thinks it's her special dish!
It has been, and is still used extensively and still in superb condition, not a chip anywhere, (it's had a few chips on it though!) It was not available for alot of years but we noticed a year or two back it was available again in this country, unfortunately not in our design. But we have had superb service from it and would have no qualms with replacing it if we ever had to, from us - highly recommended.

Hi Mel,we bought a set on a caravan club offer and have been very pleased,its tough and light and can be warmed in the oven still looks like new.On the offer there was a limited range but was about £35 iirc for 4plates cups bowls and sideplates

I notice in the small print that the cups are made of china and therefore not the same material as the plates. It also states that the cups do not have the same guarantee as the plates. Interesting??

They do feel heavier but we wrap them in that plastic mesh stuff and pop them in the racks in cupboard and they have been fine for two seasons. They do get metallic marks from the rack sometimes but they come off with a green pan scubber.

They are stoneware. Nice colour though. We already have some mugs made of the tempered glass stuff; also bought cheaply 20 years ago. None of them have chipped, one broke when dropped on a concrete floor from height! If the corelle lasts as long I will be happy. The plates will have their inaugral trip at Rivenlot so will be available for inspection.
