Corner Steady problem

Hi

My van is just a year old (2017 Sprite Major 6) when I recently went away I followed the same procedure on pitching up.

I levelled the van using the jockey wheel then when I went to use the front nearside corner steady wind down nut it was out of line with the circular hole in the trim and I couldn’t access it. I then went and put down the rear steadies just with a bit resistance and went back to the offending steady nut, hey presto it was central in the hole like it should be.

This happened again when I took the van back to storage. Is there something wrong with the van or am I doing something wrong?

Hello Glock,
I to have a sprite major 6 coming up to a year old and when I am on site I do the same routine all the time, level with jockey wheel then start with the front nearside leg working my way to the back two finishing off with the right hand side front leg and I have never noticed a nut to be out of sync ?

Yes it's strange I only use the legs as a steady, it seems when I lower the rear steadies it takes up some slack/ pressure which then moves the front steady into the right place. I am wondering if the floor is loos or the chassis is moving in some way

That's possible ? have you not queried it with whoever you bought the caravan through as they could shed some light on the problem ? Not that you should have to but have you looked underneath at the actual steady to see if any other bolts are loose that could be be putting it in another position / or slightly out of line until the rear ones are dropped putting it back into position?

Craig .

I will have a look thanks, I have just read another article about the floor of some Sprite Caravan floors being incorrectly glued and start to come away. An indication is a creaky floor. I did notice while away the floor forward of the axle had started to creak a lot.

I have booked it in at a local Sprite specialist this week

We've had a few problems with ours , nothing serious but the place where we got ours from at leisure World at Catterick, ( you mentioned A66 on another post) so if your handy near them they have a good place to go, a few times I've had to ring them and they've getting a technician for me straight away and its been sorted out over the phone.

Not something I have come across but it sounds awfully like the body is flexing somehow. As the OP describes it, the first contact with the floor is the jockey wheel. If then the rear steadies are pushing it into line, it doesn't sound as if there is movement on the front steady, rather sound more like the floor. However, I would still check both the front steady mounting bolts and any play in the steady first.
What it could possibly be is the mounting bolts from floor to chassis leg. So as the jockey wheel is lowered, the chassis itself could be moving. It does really sound as if it needs a proper check over.

Just following on from what Craig said, on my last trip north we had a problem with our fridge and as we were passing Catterick we called Catterick Caravans and asked for help. I have to say they couldnt have been more obliging. Its nice to be able to give a thumbs up for once, it doesnt happen often in this industry.
