Not actually stayed there but know the area quite well and have 'peered in' (as you do!). It seems to be split into two 'fields' separated by a small public road.

I think the site is in a good position, in fairly open country with excellent walking across the dunes from the site. You can even walk to the beach, which is very good (but its a GOOD walk!). You are quite close to the entrance road to the big Haven site (Perransands), and you can walk into here for the shops etc as there's nothing on Tollgate itself, or round and about, but it is far enough away not to be a problem. To enjoy the dunes on foot you can circumvent the holiday camp completely, just go along the small lane leading away from the main road past your site, and there are lots of access points (on foot) on the left hand side. Tollgate site is about a mile outside Perranporth town, and is a fairly small site with some good views over the countryside. I imagine the showers/loo facilities are adequate, but appear fairly small. It has the appearance of a small 'farm type' site, but does look perfectly OK. I'd try it if I was in the area looking for a pitch, based on what I've seen. Hope this helps. Enjoy your holiday!

Like Richard, I have not actually stayed here but know the area quite well. The dunes he mentions is Penhale Sands and is huge, great if you have a dog or just want a walk in a fabulous area with lots of wildlife (watch out for the Adders!). If you feel energetic the walk to the sea then left to Perranpoth or right to Holywell bay is well worth the effort. If you play golf take your clubs, Perranporth golf club is a short stroll away and welcomes visitors, a championship standard course with great views. If you wanted a quiet site closer to the shops and beach in Perranporth try Perranporth camping and caravan park on 01872 572174 which is about a 10 mins walk from both.
