Cover for traveling

A while ago I saw an advert for a cover for use when driving, it just covers the front of the caravan, and protects from stones and dirt, I think it fits on the awning rails.

Does anyone have any experience of them? If so, would you recomend one, are they worth the money, and where is the best place to get one?
 
We have brought a front cover for the van from Cover systems.You slide the beading into the awning channel and tighten the straps.

Our van has never been so clean
 
I would have concerns about the possibility of getting fretting marks on the acrylic windows. The need to clean the windows well before fitting it for the return journey and the difficulty in keeping the surface of the cover that touches the windows absolutely clean.

I quite like the idea of a "bib" for below the window line but I hate micro scratched windows and cant see how this can be avoided over time if these are covered.

Will be interesting to hear about users experiences.
 
Hi, i had a cover on the front of my Swift Challenger for our trip to the south of france a couple of years ago as i didn't want it to get plasterd in dead fly's and diesel fumes.

Never again it flapped in the wind until i got to Reims where i stopped to remove the cover because it was driveing me mad, i had tightened the strapps several times but no matter what i did it still flapped in the wind. To further annoy me when i finally arrived in the south of france i had tiny scratches all over the front windows...Needless to say the cover went in the bin.

I thought i was doing the right thing trying to keep my new caravan clean, it caused more damage with the cover on than without, shampoo and water is much safer to windows, i learned the hard way hours of polishing windows when i got home was not fun.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could get something like 'giant cling film' which you just pulled off the roll and over the front of your van. On arriving on site you could just peel it off, flies, muck and all, throw it away, and put a clean 'sheet' on when you were on your way home!

Come on, please, inventors. I hate scraping flies off after our twice yearly French visits!
 
Thanks for all the advice everyone, and sorry for the delay in replying, been away for a few days.

It's given me a few things to think about, think I'll leave it for now, the scratching and wind noise has put me off a bit.

Joking aside, is there any reason I can't clingfilm the front of the van?

Hi Jim - after I posted this I thought 'Why not' so we've found some 'catering size' cling film which is wider than the normal domestic sort, and will try it on our van on our next journey south!

With our luck at the moment it will react chemically with the new window we've just had made, and dissolve it en-route - but if not I'll let you know the results when we've tried it!
 
Val I remember reading in the past that using cling film on the windows can cause crazing due to a chemical reaction. If i remember rightly it was tried to avoid scatches to windows when using a cover in storage.

I considered buying one of these as the diesel soot makes a mess of the caravan and after a thousand miles arriving in the south of France with a black van is not appealing. However, there is not a 'tailoured' cover for our van and the universal models cover the front marker lights so using one of these would be illegal.
 
We did see sometime ago on the internet that a company do just a bottom half of one, but since then can't find it. any one know the company name as we like one as well, Trevor123

These do a made to measure service for a front cover

I don't think I will even phone for a price. The way I see it I would be paying for them to add another 'pattern to their database' as they describe it. No, I'll do without. But thanks anyway.
What I find odd is how there is no disclaimer stating that the 'universal' towing protector would be illegal to use on the road.
I think I'll do as other have resigned themselves to, a good clean and plenty of good polish.

Hi, We just got our sample of the front towing cover for the van and bit shock to see how thin the cover is just for the bottom half is £100, be better of going for the full front cover at my dealer for the same money and 3 years guarantee instead of 1 year guarantee with Pro Tec, Trevor123
 
Hi.
I talked to the guys from Pro Tec at the recent Manchester show. The said they only do a half front cover for Bailey caravans. They said they have not found a way of securing them on Swifts without them flapping about and causing damage.

I also talked to Mr Pro-Tec at the show & am waiting for him to get in touch so that he can come over & have a look at how I would like one making, if I go down the root of ordering one I would like just a bottom half cover.
