Hi all, I have just had my caravan serviced today and told that i have got water ingress through my front panel, when i took it back to the dealership it was discovered that there was a very small crack near the joining rail, crack was only about 10mm long and was travelling up to aluminium cover rail. The man siliconed the split for a temporary fix and took pictures and details and said he will contact Bailey and will be in touch.Having searched the web tonight this seems a common fault with Bailey Ranger 2005 models. The cost of the repair will be around £4,000, luckily it is still under warranty.I was wondering whether anybody has had a similar experience with this year model and if so what were the results and why hasnt this problem been rectified. cheers Mike

You have to ask why do caravan manufacturers continue using ABS panels when there appears to be a disproportionate failure rate.

Bailey are not the only ones to suffer the problem but no manufacturer will actualy tell you how many fail each year compared to the total number produced.

Search this site and you wil loads of stuf on this aspect.

Let's hope your dealer does a good job with the replacement panel.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Michael

Yes this has happened to us on our 2005 Ranger. Our front panel crack was diagnosed at the first service by the dealer in 2006. I think it is a common problem on that years Ranger's caused by a faulty supply of panel's.

In fairness to Bailey they were very good in sorting it out. The van went back to them for repair as the dealer couldnt schedule the repair in their workshop for a good few months. It was returned back to us with the problem sorted within 6 weeks. No further problems since then.

Assuming your service history is up to date you shouldnt have any problems with getting the repair done under warranty.

Good luck, Martin

Hello Michael,

I am not certain about this, but the effect of the sale of goods act where a fault has been established is to place the customer in the same position after the repair or replacement as if no fault had occurred. I interpret this to mean that your original warranty still stands. In other words the customer cannot expect to make any gain (monetary or access to services) from the event.

However, if as a result of the fault you have incurred a real loss (e.g. you were unable to take a particular holiday because of the fault, and consequently you have suffered the loss of booking or site fees) and provided you have evidence then you have grounds to sue the supplier. Often it is unnecessary as the seller may offer some form of compensation as a gesture of goodwill.

The simple answerer is to ask your dealer!

Hi

I have a 2005 Ranger 550/6 I had exactly the same problem. I took it to Broad Lane who I bought the van from, they contacted Bailey who subsequently took the van back to the factory, replaced the panel, checked the van thoroughly and was returned within 3 weeks. fantastic customer services.

I have exactly the same problem with the same van/model.I have already had the front panel replaced once and its happened again however even in view of this bailey wont repair it because the van was not serviced on schedule. i have been advised by solicitors to take bailey to court under the sales of goods act for goods not fit for purpose which is what im in process of doing. the van was serviced because we hadnt used it and it was with bailey for the new front panel longer than we actaully got use out of it. the shower tray also has a nice crack in it whhich they also will not repair quoting 12 month warranty. seems srange that on a van that i expected to use for 10 years cracks after 3 with very little use. will be buying another elddis again next time. hpoe yours gets sorted
