Crack repair on van?

Hi all,my first post so please take it easy on me :-/
I bought an Avondale Dart at the weekend, checked it all for damp before hand and all seems dry.
Got it home and whilst giving it a wash i noticed a crack about 5cm long above one of the front windows.
Can i simply seal this with silocone,do i a have to use something special,or do i get some body out to it that will probably charge my a stupid amount of money?
Many thanks in advance
Carl

My advice would be to get it repaired properly. Cracks have a habit of increasing in size. As well as that, if any water should happen to seep past the silicone, you could end up with big problems.

Hi Oscar
You didn't mention where you bought the caravan from but why not contact the person who sold the caravan to complain about the crack.
When you bought the caravan was it from a dealer or was it a private sale? Was the caravan advertised as being 'in good condition' , 'free from damp' or any other such term?
Unfortunately some Avondale front panels were subject to cracking, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if this caravan is one of those affected it's doubtful whether an effective repair could be carried out by using silicone.

1st thing is go back to the person you bought it from,If it was a dealer he should repair it. If things come to the worst get the crack "Plastic welded" not chemicaly welded but hot welded .This is one company that might be able to help http://www.panelworks.co.uk/
it is a uk co despite the american introduction
