Hi all, Recently When i was moving my Caravan off the front lawn (The hitch is facing the wrong way) And onto my drive. I had noticed when I engaged the motormover i noticed cracks around the tyre wall these are only 4 years old, could the cause of this be where it has been parked for a long period of time?. Should i replace the tyres or keep a check on them?

Replace - no question about it.
Two new tyres are dirt cheap compared to the cost of a new caravan ( or someone's life!)

Cracking is indicative of sidewall degading which will lead to a blow out.
Replace the tyres, they are dangerous.

Big ditto too! You are lucky to have spotted them as often they first appear in between the tread grooves.

Did you buy the caravan new with teh tyres already fitted? If so, check the date of manufacture of the tyres. (DOT)

As a ps to my earlier comment - when ( not if ) you get your new tyres don't forget to have the wheels balanced even if the tyre fitter claims " it's not necessary for caravans"

Yes got it from dealers it reads 4109 which is the 41st week of 2009 so shouldn't be cracking already should it?

There are a lot of things which damage tyres, and as such they may last a long time , or not very long.

Some makes are better than others.

I have seen 1 year old tyres with sidewall splitting, tread separation etc.

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. came back from Bedale and when putting the wheel clamps on saw cracks in the walls, had all 4 tyres replaced and balanced for £200 , didnt think that was too bad, better safe than a blow out on the motorway.

The guy that came to our house to service the van noticed that my one tyre was starting to bulge slightly on the inside wall, so staight up to my local fitters & replace with brand new 7 ply tyre. £50 was a bargain to me & saved me from a blow out on the motorway
