Crossing the Channel

We are planning a trip to France next year in July and are looking for the best value way of crossing the Channel. As we are traveling from N. Ireland and driving thru Scotland and England it does not matter which port we sail from or land at,its the cost that we would like to know .

Cheers

Barry

Hi Barry,

Check out the "Land Bridge" pricing on the main ferry company web-sites, these give you a bundled price for the two crossings.

Coming from Ayrshire Scotland we travelled via Hull northsea ferries although a 12hour crossing, you have to keep in mind the cost of fuel and the bonus for us was that we only used a tank of fuel to and from Hull and it is very cheap in Zeegbrugge.

Booked our holiday through Carefree Camping and caravan Club.

Barry, to add to Barney's recommendation of Dover to Dunkerque.

This is operated by Norfolk Line and the price can be checked on their website. They have been very flexible about changing dates and times and we have usually booked a return for the latest possible date. We have then turned up even 2 weeks earlier and gone on the next sailing with no extra charge.

I agree with Bryan. You have to take into account the fuel costs, the site fees and the stress of driving down to Dover, and of course do it all the way back again. We did it for the last 2 years, but have reverted to Hull, because if you book the dates right it can be very reasonable and we save on all the above. Coming from Stranraer it would be a relatively easy trip across the M62 to Hull, rather tha the M6, M1, M25 and M2.
