Cycles

Hi all

Anybody tow with 2 cycles on a rack on the tow bar or back of a 4X4 if so how is the clearance whan turning.

Thanks RodG

I used to tow with two bikes on the rear of my Defender 110.

There was no issue with clearance in any ahead lock;you simply cant get enough turn on. However going backwards was significantly inhibited as the angles there are much greater [jack-knife in the extreme]. And that was with a long "A" frame continental van, not the shorter UK norm.

Had to remove bikes to back onto pitch, or use mover.

This could be countered by fitting the bikes at a high level, but getting them up there would not be easy.

I believe few hitches/chassis will cope with the normal van nose weight plus two bikes. Alko hitches and chassis are normally 100kg, with a few rare 150kg examples.
