Cycling Site

This is our first year caravanning (first outing 23/03/2007) but we are really interested in finding a sie that offers good in and around cycle routes etc. Not for mountain biking etc but for family outing 2 bikes and bike trailer. Anyone got any suggestions?

thanks

dan,you dont say what area your planning to visit, one of the best sites for cycling is pembrey park, south wales, miles and miles of flat excellent cycle paths

Try the Peak District. There are a number of sites quite close to the Tissington, High Peak and Monsall Trails which are traffic free routes suitable for family touring and trailer bikes.

The tarka trail in north devon is good, its off road disused railway with flat safe cycling from inland all the way out to the sea. There is a site with direct access to the trail called Smytham Manor...I havent been there myself so cant comment on it but you can cycle right on the trail without getting in your car.

We've also done the Camet Trail in north cornwall, which is the same - a disused railway that runs for miles. If you look for sites near Wadebridge/Bodmin/Camelford/Padstow/Tintagel/Port Isaac area - you are not too far away from the trail.

We do both trails with our German shepherd dog in a bike trailer !! (she gets out and runs sometimes 🙂 )

Good old Sandy Balls in the new forest. Loads of cycle routes from here, the bike hire shop on site will even sell you some routes (or they are free if you hire their bikes).

Loads of routes to choose from, or you can take your bikes out on your car and there are loads more routes within a half hours drive. A good one is Moors Valley, a massive country park in the Verwood forest, several routes around here as well as a nature trail, some lakes, and for the kids a minature steam railway.

Also as Chelsea said, try the Camel trail in Cornwall, several sites close by, one we use and will be going back in july is Trewince Farm nr Wadebridge.

Hi Dan

I was just going to put a posting on this forum as I have booked a pitch for some friends that now can't make it on 23/02/07, and I am stuck with not being able to cancel it.

We are going to the Forest of Dean specifically for cycling with my 2 young children. The site is Whitemead Leisure Park with direct access to the forest's family cycling routes. The caravan pitches can only be booked by CSMA members like myself.

If you would like the spare pitch, or if anyone else out there would like the pitch, it is available for
