Czech and Polish Vignettes

Off to Krakow shortly and we will be driving via Prague. Travelling in France, Germany and Italy we have been used to going through borders virtually without any checks whatsoever. But I understand that for the Czech Republic you have to have the car inspected for damage on entering ( AA web site) and purchase a vignette for driving in the country. Is it straightforward to buy the vignette at the border crossing itself or an adjacent services or are they bought before entering the country? Is it the same for Poland or do you just pay the motorway tolls at the booths?

Will be going to the Czech Republic in September, the way I understand about the motorway sticker, is you purchase it at the border or the first service area. Will have to let them inspect my car if they want to, they should know all about it, yes it's a Skoda!

Just had this sent to me from Skoda, a leaflet on travel abroad and for the Czech Republic:
The authorities at the frontier must certify any visible damage to a vehicle entering the Czech Republic. If any damage occurs inside the country a police report must be obtained at the scene of the accident. Damaged vehicles may only be taken out of the country on production of this evidence.
