Daewoo microwave in my Bailey Senator has stopped working

Hi

We're just back from 6 very pleasant nights at Ebury Hill CCC site nr Shrewsbury.

However, we had a problem with the Daewoo microwave fitted in our Bailey Senator Arizona (2006/5 series). The microwave was working fine when we were away in the summer but when Cary put a pre-cooked meal into the microw to heat whilst we set up - it didn't heat up. The light came on and turntable rotated but no heating effect!!!!! Groan I was hungry by then!!

The microwave is mounted at eye level above the draining board. How is it secured in the cabinet - is it with screws from underneath? I took the clock panel, above the m/w off and checked the plug and fuse - not surprisingly they were fine as indicated by the light and turntable were working.

I imagine it is unlikely to be cost effective to get it repaired as I don't think this m/w is a very expensive model.

Does anyone know if a model with similar dimensions is still available? as a replacement would have to fit into the cabinet.

Thanks in anticipation.

If you make a note of the make/model and 'Google' it you will probably find outlets selling it.

Replaced our microwave in P6 Burgundy, but under warranty, although I did myself. Replacement unit is samller outside but internally the same.

Very easy to change on the Pageant.

I'm sure if you contact Bailey's customer service they'll qoute the replacement unit, otherwise try one of a similar size, but like I say changing over was quite easy.

Thanks

John and Tom

I popped down to my local Morrisons as soon as I saw John's post. The model they are offering is the KOR6L15. It has slightly smaller external dimensions 446x270 compared with my current model which is 465x279. The I've been mulling over whether it would fix in okay and door open okay, etc. The height should be okay but it would leave larger side gaps. Our failed model is the KOR-63F7SL (now discontinued)

The one on offer at Morrisons is, also, a white one and we would prefer to replace with another silver but they are available in the smaller size.

What model was your replacement Tom?

Also, Tom, does your 'van have any sort of vent on the microwave housing? I notice that the failed m/w has a vent on the lefthand side, viewed from the front, which blows out air, but this would have been very close to the side wall of the cabinet as the housing is only 280mm wide - perhaps that's why it failed!!!

Ponder, ponder.

Thanks again for your advice.

Tim,

We have a Daewoo fitted in our GT60 - same dimensions as yours, but model number KOR-6L15SL. I googled it and it is still available.

Outside dimensions 446 x 270 x 331

Thanks for trying anyway Al!!

Some of the Daewoo microwaves are the larger size like ours but it's knowing whether they will fit in securely and the door open, etc. Pity I can't get a straight swap.

The fitting "system" is a bit "Heath Robinson". A wooden framework is screwed to the bottom of the microwave and then that is screwed to the cabinet floor from underneath. I'd probably have to drill the metal underside of any replacement m/wave for the fitting screws - a bit scarey!

Hi Tim

I fitted the same microwave in a few of our vans but used metal L brackets in the existing microwave side screws

I also in one van had L brackets at the rear than slid under flat metal bracket and then secured the unit at the front

The feet usually screw on so that is OK for a fixing too

My friend has had trouble with his Senator Microwave overheating so a gap at the sides would be an advantage as would fitting side grills

I had one vented under the floor from the side grills using Carver heater pipe ducting

Thanks John

That's very helpful. I'll have to do a bit more research regarding available microwaves and fittings but I VERY much appreciate your advice.

Hello Tim,

This may be too late but I have one of the exact microwaves you are looking for, for sale. I was just surfing the internet and came across your post - I am not a caravan person & nothing to do with this board but just thought i'd contact you!

The microwave I have is the same model, Daewoo KOR 63F7SL in silver, bought in 2004 but has not had much use. It is in full working order & with manual apart from the lightbulb which needs changing (if you want to see what you are cooking, but obviously not strictly needed).

I would give it away for a few pounds though am aware it may need posting so cost-wise may not be feasible for you. Regards, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia

We would be interested in your microwave if it is feasible to get it. Where are you located as posting it would probably not be practical?

I appreciate you getting in touch.

Thanks

Hi again, thanks for your reply. I am located in Guildford/Surrey, not sure where you are and if that's any good? If yes is there a way we can communicate privately?

Regards, Sylvia
