On 1st sept 2008 we bought a new omega 525 from our local dealer in manchester , wont mention name, 27th sept took van back to have motormover fitted.great job on the m/mover yet they damaged the skirt under the door. they admitted to the damage and stated they would order the nw part and fit it yet this would take up to 4 weeks. to date its still not been fixed even though i have rang on the1st of each month since. i have been in touch with trading standards and they have said write back to the dealer with regards to this under the sale of goods act. that was 3 weeks ago and still nothing back from dealer. does anyone know what i can do next as I am getting no where.

Hi Trev

What a shame they damaged your brand new caravan so early on.

It seems they have verbally agreed to fix it foc.

If I were you I would telephone Compass and ask if your dealer has ordered the required part.

Sometimes the manufacturer can be notoriously slow in supplying spares!

Off the cuff I've always wondered why dealers don't rob spares from the other new c'vans on their site, lol.

Cheers

With a smile on your face and without ever being rude or raising your voice just block the dealers entrance with the outfit if they don't want to behave. "Works wonders" I'm told.

I threatened to block the gate of the now defunct Cannock Caravans when they kept getting the wrong sink to replace the damaged one in my new van, following this threat they took one from another van.

Just as an aside, Manufactures often do that, especially where they are in any sort of financial difficulties, and their normal suppliers wont play ball.

On significant manufacturer did this back in the 1980's and ended up with a storage site full of part finished or robbed caravans.

It was only after the manufacturers debts were cleared that the supplies restarted deliveries. So it may be an indication that another manufacture is in some difficulty.

Forget the blocking driveways etc as you couold get done for obstruction. Send them a "Letter before Action" stating that unless the caravan is repaired within "x" amount of days from receipt of letter, you will be claiming compensation through the small claims court for the damage.

I would suggest 30 days as this is a reasonable time limit in a judge's eyes. Send it registered post for signature stating that you require an answer within 7 days.

For more information google "Consumer Action Group". If they ignore the letter, raise a claim at the small claims court which could cost you anything between

Over many years of buying caravans and plenty of other goods the sellers have had this quaint idea that before we got our goodies we part with our hard earned pennies.

The idea that one should be writing letters and accepting that 30 days is a fair time to wait for action after already being inconvenienced is a far flung alien concept to me.

If the goods don't perform as they should or the supplier fouls up they should without any hesitation be respecting the fact that they didn't give away the goodies for free or without getting the money on the nail and that they move heaven and earth at speed to satisfy me you or any customer as fast as humanly possible or expect trouble.

Blocking a private driveway is unlikely to get you booked for obstruction even if a UK bobby has the time to make an appearance, and how stupid would the dealer look in front of other customers!

For gods sake stand up to sellers who don't perform and give good service.
