damp readings in year old caravan

Help what should the readings be when caravan has its first damp check at dealers . ?????? At what figure do I start to worry ??

Swiftman, having searched the past responses relating to damp readings I found one, which suggests that 8 to 12% is normal , with 15% being acceptable.

As vans are made of wood, in various forms, there is bound to be some kind of damp reading, and also it depends what kind of day the readings are taken on.

A high humidity on the day will produce a higher reading, as would if the readings were taken immediately after the van had been occupied for a time.

I would suggest you contact the manufacturers and ask their opinion.

Hi Swiftman,

We had damp in the rear end of our 2002 Compass Rallye after two years. When they checked it out, one of the workshop people at the dealers remarked that if they found 30% damp in any panel, Explorer group would pay them to replace it under warranty. We had one panel at 35% and one at 60%.

Cheers,

Mike A
