Decals

Some of the soft lettering decals on my caravan have started to lift away at the corners (Probably due to over enthusiastic cleaning). What would be a suitable adhesive to stick these down again?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi michael I would use PVA adhesive

Wipe any excess off with water

Its used a lot in schools for collage as well as sticking wood

We did some tests in school for strength of glued joints in wood using different glues and Marvin Medium(PVA) came out best

Hi Michael - I think that PVA adhesive may not be suitable because it relies on the water evaporating to form the bond, and in this case it will be trapped between two impervious surfaces. A solvent based adhesive may attack one or other of the surfaces so my immediate reaction is to suggest double sided Selotape, but how you do that neatly right up to the edge of the decal I do not know! I look forward to reading other suggestions - John

Now i do not know whether it will work for you but we had a strip 1 metre long which come adrift and i asked a guy that does that sort of work and he said clean the surface behind much as possible, then with a hair dryer gently warm the strip and area ,then run your finger press along the strip without stretching it to its position. So far and it is now two years it has not come apart

I see your point but it would be worth a try as it would not melt the plastic of the decals as would some glues

Vinyl wallpaper overlap adhesive will stick vinyl to vinyl and it says on the tub other materials such as leather etc

That could be worth a try
