Last year i bought a new caravan and to keep moisture at bay during the winter months i run a dehumidier for 2 hours at night which collects a surprising amonut of water. I also put the heat on for a few hours at the weekend. Is the dehumidier a good idea or not?

If you've had a leak, which has now been repaired, a dehumidifier is a useful way of drying out the interior of the caravan.
Otherwise, all you're doing is dehumidifying the ambient air. Any moisture you take out is soon replace my cold moist air through the normal ventilation inlets.
If you use the caravan through the winter, that use should be sufficient to keep it aired. If you lay-up, just open all the windows for a few hours on a fine spring day before you start using it again.
